A Tuesday with two trucks

“Where's can 14, and how long has it been there?”

That is the first call most mornings. Add your cans by number and size once (a fleet of 40 takes a few minutes); when a can goes out, pick the customer, the address and the drop date, and the due date fills in from your rental period. Then the day runs like this.

  1. 6:45 am

The board before the first coffee

Two cans are overdue on a roofing job and a driveway clean-out. Can 21 is flagged with a cracked door, so it stays in the yard.

  2. 9:20 am

A contractor calls for a swap

The dispatcher logs a swap on can 18, picks Dave as the driver, and goes back to the phone.

  3. 11:05 am

Dave swaps it from the truck

He marks the swap done and picks can 24 as the empty he left. Can 18 is back in the yard and the days-out clock on the job starts over.

  4. 4:30 pm

    One look before closing

What went out, what came back, which cans are due tomorrow. No whiteboard to wipe, no texts to scroll back through.

Why days out matter

One forgotten 20-yard can, priced out

A can that sits nine days past its rental period isn't only an overage you forgot to bill. It is a can you couldn't rent to the next caller, and a customer who may dispute the charge because nobody wrote down the drop date.

The board flags it on day one past due, with the drop date on record.

Where every can is, right now

Each can shows as in the yard or on site, with the customer, the address and the drop date. Look up can 14 by number from any phone.

Days out and overdue flags

Every placement counts its days out against your rental period. Cans past due rise to the top of the board, so you can call about the extra days or send the truck.

Calls become jobs, jobs get closed

Swap and pull requests

Log a swap or pull while the customer is still on the phone and assign a driver. It stays open until someone marks it done.

Drivers see only their own drops, swaps and pulls, and close them from the truck. A swap records which can came back and which one went out.

The can's own record

Can condition history

Log a bent door, missing pins or rust-through against the can. A can flagged for repair can't be picked for the next drop until it is logged good again.

Customers and their history

Each customer lists the cans they have had, the addresses, and how many days each one sat. Export cans and placements to CSV any time.

Dumpster rental software questions, answered

Cost and trial

How much does dumpster rental software cost?

Full dumpster rental suites with dispatch, routing and invoicing usually start around $80 a month, and several only quote after a demo. CanBoard is $19 a month (Solo, 30 cans), $39 (Crew, 100 cans and driver logins) or $69 (Office, 300 cans, dispatchers and drivers).

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new company gets 14 days free, no card needed. After that your records stay readable, and you pick a plan to keep adding and changing them.

What it does and doesn't do

Does CanBoard track roll-off containers by GPS?

No. It tracks cans by where you dropped them: the customer, the address and the dates. That answers where a can is and how long it has been out, without a tracker on every container.

Does it do dispatch, routing or invoicing?

No. There is no route planner, scheduling engine, invoicing or payments. It covers which can is where, for how long, and what has to happen next.

Your crew

We run the fleet from a spreadsheet. Is it worth switching?

If one person keeps the sheet and it is always right, maybe not. CanBoard earns its keep once more than one person drops, swaps and pulls cans, because the board changes when the driver marks a job done, not when someone gets back to the office.

Can drivers see every customer?

No. A driver sees only the drops, swaps and pulls assigned to them, plus a lookup of any can by number. Customers, the full placement list and settings stay with the owner and the dispatcher.
